Think Rare Program

Think Rare. Act Early.
Transform Lives.

The EIP's Think Rare Program empowers pediatricians and general practitioners (GPs) to identify rare and underdiagnosed conditions early. By considering "rare diseases" in your everyday practice from the initial signs, you can transform a child’s life—enhancing outcomes, enabling early intervention, and offering hope to families.

Our Mission

Why Think Rare

Most rare diseases first present to a pediatrician or general practitioner — the clinicians best placed to identify the early signs, yet the least likely to have trained on conditions this uncommon. The Think Rare Program is built to close that gap.

Think Rare

A condition affecting one child in tens of thousands rarely features in routine differential diagnosis, and its early signs resemble far more common presentations. Thinking rare means keeping these conditions in view and recognizing the patterns that should raise suspicion.

Act Early

On average, a rare disease takes 4.7 years to diagnose, and one in four patients consults eight or more clinicians before it is confirmed. Acting early means considering the possibility during a routine consultation and applying a clear approach that enables timely referral.

Transform Lives

For progressive diseases, the treatment window can close within months, so the point of first suspicion is often decisive. Enzyme replacement and gene therapies now exist for a growing number of these conditions, and earlier recognition is what gives a child access in time.
