Dr. Dipak Ram is a Consultant Paediatric Neurologist at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and serves as the neurology clinical lead for neurometabolic services in the North West of England. His clinical and research interests focus on inherited neurodegenerative and neurometabolic disorders, with a particular emphasis on leukodystrophies.

Dr. Ram plays a key role in the global Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD) initiative network and is involved in international research collaborations exploring improved diagnostic pathways and therapeutic interventions, including newborn screening for MLD. He is the lead UK neurologist for NHS England’s Libmeldy gene therapy service for MLD, contributing to the development and delivery of one of the first approved gene therapy treatments for a pediatric neurodegenerative condition.

He actively participates in several national and international clinical trials focused on rare neurological diseases, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to evaluate emerging therapies. His work has been published in a range of peer-reviewed journals, contributing to the evidence base for innovative treatments and the natural history of complex neurogenetic disorders.

In addition to his clinical and research roles, Dr. Ram is committed to medical education and workforce development. He currently serves as the National Training Advisor for Paediatric Neurology in the UK, supporting the training and professional development of neurology trainees and contributing to national curriculum and assessment frameworks.

Dr. Ram’s work reflects a strong focus on rare disease care, therapeutic innovation, and long-term service development for children with complex neurological conditions.
