Andreas Øberg

Dr. Øberg works as a Senior Consultant in Inborn Errors of Metabolism at Oslo University Hospital and is part of the Norwegian Newborn Screening Program. His primary focus is the integration of biochemical and genetic screening to reduce falsepositives and improve phenotypic prediction—an approach that will be essential for enabling future presymptomatic treatment. He played a central role in establishing Norway as the fi rst country worldwide to implement nationwide screening for metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD).

Dr. Øberg is actively engaged in evaluating how newborn screening programs can adapt to emerging diagnostic and therapeutic developments. He contributes to several national and international expert groups, including MetabERN and the MLD Initiative (MLDi), where he participates in ongoing discussions on newborn screening and clinical pathways for raremetabolic diseases.
