Rotraud Saurenmann

Prof. Rotraud Saurenmann is Head of the Pediatric Department at Kantonsspital Winterthur (Cantonal Hospital Winterthur) in Switzerland, a position she has held since 2012. She studied medicine at the University of Zurich and earned her specialist qualification in pediatrics in 1997. Following this, she undertook subspecialty training in pediatric rheumatology with clinical placements in Bern, Paris, and Toronto, gaining international experience in the diagnosis and management of complex autoimmune and musculoskeletal disorders in children.

From 1999 to 2012, Prof. Saurenmann served as Head of Pediatric Rheumatology at Zurich University Children’s Hospital, where she played a key role in the development of clinical services and research initiatives in the field. Her academic and clinical work has focused on juvenile idiopathic arthritis and other rheumatic diseases of childhood, contributing to improved standards of care and collaborative research efforts in Europe and beyond.

She has been an active member of the Pediatric Rheumatology European Society (PRES) and the Paediatric Rheumatology International Trials Organization (PRINTO) since 1998. She served as Chair of the PRES Education and Training Committee from 2006 to 2012 and has been a longstanding member of the Swiss Working Group for Paediatric Rheumatology, where she also served on the council.

In addition to her clinical and leadership responsibilities, Prof. Saurenmann is involved in postgraduate medical education and has contributed to national and international training programs in pediatric rheumatology. Her work continues to support the advancement of pediatric care and collaborative research in Switzerland and across Europe.
