William Pickett

Prof. William Pickett is a Professor of Epidemiology in the Department of Health Sciences at Brock University in Canada. He brings over two decades of experience in public health research, with a particular focus on the epidemiology of injury and violence, and the health of children and adolescents in rural and agricultural settings.

Prof. Pickett has contributed extensively to national and international research efforts exploring the social and environmental determinants of health. He co-leads the Canadian Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) study, a national surveillance initiative conducted in collaboration with the Public Health Agency of Canada. The HBSC project is part of an international network supported by the World Health Organization, and Prof. Pickett has been a member of this scientific network for over 20 years.

His research portfolio includes studies funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), with a focus on health determinants in rural and agricultural populations, injury prevention, adolescent mental health, and risk behaviors. He has led multiple cross-national epidemiological studies examining the prevalence and contextual drivers of adolescent violence and unintentional injury.

In addition to his primary academic role at Brock University, Prof. Pickett holds an adjunct appointment at Queen’s University, where he contributes to collaborative research and graduate student mentorship. He is involved in interdisciplinary teaching and capacity-building efforts aimed at advancing evidence-based policy and public health practice in Canada and internationally.
