Dr. Harriet Fisher is a Research Fellow at the Bristol Medical School (Population Health Sciences) within the University of Bristol. She specializes in public health, prevention, and mixed-methods research, with a particular focus on vaccine confidence, HPV vaccination programs, and health inequalities2.
Dr. Fisher’s research explores barriers to vaccine uptake, particularly among adolescents and ethnically diverse populations. Her doctoral work examined inequalities in HPV vaccination uptake, using a mixed-methods approach to understand the factors influencing vaccine hesitancy. She has contributed to studies on self-consent procedures for adolescent vaccinations, analyzing how decision-making processes impact immunization rates.
In recent years, Dr. Fisher has become increasingly involved in co-developing interventions to improve vaccine confidence. She has worked on projects that use refutation-based learning to counter misinformation and enhance vaccine knowledge among healthcare professionals and the public. Her research also investigates healthcare professionals’ emotions and communication strategies when addressing vaccine hesitancy.
Beyond her work in vaccinology, Dr. Fisher has contributed to public health initiatives aimed at increasing physical activity and reducing socio-cultural health inequalities. She has participated in studies assessing the effectiveness of employer-led interventions to promote walking during daily commutes, supporting efforts to improve population health.
Dr. Fisher is affiliated with the Bristol Population Health Science Institute and collaborates with national and international health organizations to refine strategies for vaccine communication and public health interventions. Her contributions to public health research, vaccine confidence, and health behavior studies continue to shape policies that promote equitable healthcare access and disease prevention.
