Professor Robert Daum is a Professor of Pediatrics, Microbiology, and Molecular Medicine and the Director of the University of Chicago MRSA Research Center. He is a leading expert in pediatric infectious diseases, contributing to advancements in infection prevention, antibiotic resistance research, and immunization strategies.
Dr. Daum has been recognized by Chicago magazine, Castle Connolly, and other organizations as one of the top pediatric infectious disease specialists in the United States. His expertise spans bacterial infections, antimicrobial resistance, and vaccine development, shaping best practices in pediatric infectious disease management. He has lent his expertise to dozens of studies focused on new treatments to fight or prevent infections, ensuring that children receive evidence-based care.
As the Director of the Pediatric Immunization Program, Dr. Daum leads outreach initiatives to promote early vaccination in Chicago’s public housing projects, ensuring that underserved communities have access to life-saving immunizations. His work integrates public health strategies with clinical research, addressing barriers to vaccine uptake and improving immunization coverage.
Dr. Daum is actively involved in policy development and advisory roles, serving as a member of the Immunization Advisory Committee for the Illinois Department of Public Health. He also holds the position of Assistant Chair of the Illinois Chapter Committee on Infectious Diseases, where he contributes to statewide efforts in infection control and pediatric healthcare policies.
Beyond his research and policy work, Dr. Daum is dedicated to medical education and mentorship, training healthcare professionals in pediatric infectious disease management and immunization strategies.
