Stergios Zacharoulis

Dr. Zacharoulis is currently the Director of Pediatric Neuro-Oncology and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University Medical Center.

He received his M.D. from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece. Stergios trained at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Dana Farber Cancer Institute/Boston Children’s Hospital, and is board certified for pediatrics, and pediatric hematology/oncology in the US.

In is current position is in charge of creating a pipeline of drug development in childhood cancer within Bristol Myers Squibb and sees patients at Columbia University Medical Center.

Stergios joined BMS from Columbia University, NY, where he has been Herbert Irving Associate Professor of Pediatrics since 2018. Before that, he held several leadership positions at renowned US and international institutions including Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California, Childrens Hospital Los Angeles and the Royal Marsden Hospital in the UK.

In his positions in the UK, and more recently at Columbia, Stergios has led various clinical trials and the development of a Novel Drug Delivery program for children with brain tumors focusing on Convection Enhanced Delivery and Focused Ultrasound. He launched together with his colleagues at Columbia the first worldwide Convection Enhanced Delivery trial using a subcutaneous programmable pump for children with Diffuse Pontine Glioma, as well as first worldwide non-invasive Focused Ultrasound clinical trial in children with relapsed Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Gliomas. He is currently also launching new clinical trials with novel medicines for pediatric cancer. He also has industry experience as former Senior Director, Oncology Pediatrics Lead, at Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS).
