Nicola Veronese

Dr. Nicola Veronese (b. 1983) is an Italian geriatrician and clinical researcher with a primary focus on geriatric medicine, nutritional epidemiology, and the epidemiology of aging. He obtained his MD (2008) and specialization in Geriatric Medicine (2014), where his doctoral dissertation on pre-frailty and cardiovascular disease was subsequently published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.Since 2017, Dr. Veronese has been a practicing geriatrician at Azienda 3 �Serenissima� in Venice, where he coordinates general practitioners in nursing home settings and provides specialized geriatric care. Parallel to his clinical role, he has developed a robust research portfolio through collaborations with national and international institutions, including the National Research Council in Padua, Washington University in St. Louis, Harvard School of Public Health, and the National Institute on Aging (Bethesda, USA). His research activity spans infectious diseases, vaccinations, frailty, sarcopenia, multimorbidity, body composition, and the role of nutrition in healthy aging.Dr. Veronese has published over 800 peer-reviewed articles, with substantial contributions as first and senior author. His scientific work has garnered significant international recognition, reflected in an h-index of 114(Google Scholar). He has served as chief editor of volumes such as Frailty and Cardiovascular Diseases (Springer) and the Encyclopedia of Biomedical Gerontology (Elsevier), and is the Editor in Chief of Aging Clinical Experimental Research. He is ranked among the Highly Cited Researchers from 2021.Within professional societies, Dr. Veronese has held several leadership positions. He was a scientific advisor for the Italian Society of Geriatric Medicine (SIGOT), president of the Veneto Section of the Italian Society of Extra-Hospital Geriatricians, and leader of the EuGMS Special Interest Group on systematic reviews and meta-analyses for healthy aging. From 2025, he is chair of the EuGMS Special Interest Group in Infectious Diseases and Vaccinations. His contributions have been recognized with multiple national and international awards, including the Italian Society of Neurogeriatrics Award, the AgNovos Young Investigator Award, and several fellowships from the European Society for Clinical and Economic Aspects of Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases (ESCEO).
