George Valiotis is the Executive Director of Health Technology Assessment International (HTAi), a global organization dedicated to advancing health technology assessment (HTA) and evidence-based healthcare decision-making. With over 25 years of leadership experience, he has contributed to health systems governance, digital health innovation, and public health policy2.
Before joining HTAi, Valiotis served as Executive Director of the European Health Management Association (EHMA) until 2024, where he expanded membership and strengthened EHMA’s role in health system governance. His leadership in the European Digital Health Technology Assessment (EDiHTA) project was instrumental in developing frameworks for assessing digital health technologies.
Earlier in his career, Valiotis was the Chief Executive Officer of HIV Scotland, where he played a key role in Scotland’s implementation of HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), making it the first UK nation to offer this service through its national health system. His contributions were recognized with the British Medical Association’s Medfash Prize, highlighting his commitment to clinical and human rights outcomes.
Valiotis has also held leadership positions with the International AIDS Society in Switzerland, managed strategic policy collaborations, and served on the Board of Diabetes Australia, advising on medical education and science policy. His expertise extends to health strategies in Australia, where he contributed to public health initiatives and healthcare workforce development.
Beyond his executive roles, Valiotis has worked as Principal Strategic Advisor to the Commissioner for Children and Young People, Scotland, where he developed policy frameworks for child health and welfare. His ability to bridge local health needs with global policy strategies continues to inform his work at HTAi, ensuring equitable, evidence-based healthcare improvements worldwide.
