Dr. Kjell Tullus is a Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) in London, specializing in inflammatory kidney diseases, hypertension, and urinary tract infections (UTIs). With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, he has contributed extensively to pediatric nephrology research, clinical practice, and medical education.
Dr. Tullus completed his medical degree and pediatric training at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, where he also earned his PhD in Medicine. He worked as a Paediatrician and Paediatric Nephrologist in Sweden for nearly 30 years before moving to London in 2002, where he joined GOSH’s Nephrology Department. His expertise in renal vasculitis, lupus nephritis, and renovascular hypertension has positioned him as a leading figure in the field of pediatric nephrology.
His research focuses on inflammatory kidney diseases, particularly lupus nephritis and renal vasculitis, aiming to improve early diagnosis and treatment strategies for children with complex renal conditions. He has contributed to studies on hypertension in pediatric patients, refining clinical guidelines for managing high blood pressure in children with kidney disease. His work on UTIs in children has helped shape preventive and therapeutic approaches, ensuring optimal care for pediatric patients with recurrent infections.
Beyond his clinical and research work, Dr. Tullus is actively involved in medical education and mentorship, having tutored five PhD students and authored over 250 scientific papers and reviews. He is a member of several international nephrology societies, including the European Society for Paediatric Nephrology (ESPN), the International Paediatric Nephrology Association (IPNA), and the British Society for Paediatric Nephrology (BAPN).
