Gregor Sneddon

Gregor Sneddon is Secretary General of the International Federation on Ageing (IFA), appointed in November 2024. He brings extensive experience in community development, humanitarian response, and advocacy for the rights and well-being of older adults. His work spans national and international contexts, with a focus on equity, inclusion, and systems-level change.Prior to joining the IFA, Mr. Sneddon served as Executive Director of HelpAge Canada, where he led initiatives to address the needs of under-resourced older populations. Under his leadership, HelpAge Canada became the first national organization in Canada to respond specifically to older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. He spearheaded the development of pan-Canadian programs and played a key role in founding the Canadian Coalition Against Ageism (CCAA). He also established a National Community Leadership Council to support the emerging sector of Community-Based Seniors� Services.Internationally, Mr. Sneddon has contributed to the design and implementation of humanitarian programs for older people through partnerships with government, civil society, and the private sector. He participated in the United Nations Open-Ended Working Group on Ageing in 2023 and 2024, contributing to global dialogue on aging and human rights.His leadership is grounded in a commitment to justice, dignity, and self-determination. At the IFA, Mr. Sneddon works to advance evidence-informed policy, strengthen global partnerships, and promote the inclusion of older people in all aspects of society.
