Prof. Itai Shavit is Professor of Pediatrics at the Hebrew University and serves as Division Chair of Pediatrics at Hadassah University Medical Center in Jerusalem, Israel. His clinical and academic work centers on pediatric emergency medicine, with particular focus on procedural pain management, sedation practices, and the development of simulation-based training in emergency care.
Prof. Shavit’s research interests also include the epidemiology of pediatric emergency visits, with studies examining injury prevention, healthcare utilization, and outcomes in acutely ill or injured children. He has published over 130 peer-reviewed articles in international medical journals, including JAMA, JAMA Pediatrics, and Pediatrics. His work contributes to clinical guidelines and best practices in pediatric emergency settings.
He serves as Lead Researcher for the Israel Pediatric Emergency Research Network (ISPERN), a national collaborative network supporting multicenter studies in pediatric emergency medicine. Under his leadership, ISPERN engages in observational research and clinical trials aimed at improving acute pediatric care.
Prof. Shavit is also the current Chairperson of the European Society for Emergency Pediatrics, where he supports professional development, international collaboration, and the advancement of pediatric emergency medicine across Europe. He is involved in teaching, curriculum development, and mentoring medical trainees in both academic and clinical settings.
In addition to his institutional roles, he participates in advisory committees and scientific boards related to emergency care and pediatric research, contributing to policy and practice improvements at national and international levels.
