RAMANAN, ATHIMALAIPET

Prof. Athimalaipet V. Ramanan, FRCPCH, FRCP, is a Consultant Paediatric Rheumatologist at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children and the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases in Bath, United Kingdom. He holds a professorial appointment and has a long-standing commitment to clinical care, academic research, and education in pediatric rheumatology.

Prof. Ramanan has authored more than 90 peer-reviewed publications and contributed chapters to several medical textbooks. His research spans various aspects of pediatric rheumatic diseases, with particular interests in juvenile idiopathic arthritis, uveitis, and the evaluation of biologic therapies in childhood autoimmune conditions. He has been actively involved in national and international clinical trials and observational studies aimed at improving outcomes for children with rheumatic diseases.

He serves as Associate Editor of the Archives of Disease in Childhood and is a member of the Editorial Board of Rheumatology, contributing to the review and dissemination of research in pediatric and adult rheumatology. Prof. Ramanan is also Associate Director of the United Kingdom’s only Paediatric Experimental Arthritis Treatment Centre (PEATC), which supports the development and implementation of innovative therapeutic approaches in pediatric arthritis.

In addition to his clinical and research roles, Prof. Ramanan is engaged in postgraduate education and mentoring. He regularly lectures at national and international conferences and has played an active role in shaping clinical guidelines for the management of pediatric rheumatologic conditions.
