Dr. Caroline Ponmani is a Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine at Barking, Havering & Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust in the United Kingdom. She originally qualified in India, where she completed her medical degree and earned her MD in Paediatrics. She subsequently undertook her postgraduate pediatric training in London, gaining experience across a range of specialties with a focus on acute pediatric care.
Dr. Ponmani has a dual interest in paediatric emergency medicine and endocrinology, and she is particularly committed to bridging these disciplines to improve care pathways for children presenting with complex endocrine and metabolic conditions in emergency settings. Her clinical work focuses on providing high-quality acute care to children while integrating long-term management strategies, especially for conditions such as diabetes and other endocrine emergencies.
She is actively involved in clinical research and has contributed to recent collaborative studies examining the interaction between pediatric diabetes and COVID-19. These projects reflect her commitment to interdisciplinary research and improving the understanding of how acute infections impact chronic endocrine conditions in children.
In addition to her clinical and academic roles, Dr. Ponmani is dedicated to medical education and the professional development of junior doctors and nursing staff. She works to foster a culture of curiosity, critical thinking, and continuous learning within the pediatric emergency department, encouraging innovation and evidence-based practice.
Dr. Ponmani continues to advocate for integrated models of care that combine acute pediatric medicine with subspecialty expertise to enhance outcomes and service delivery in child health.
