OKETAH, NGOZI

Dr Ngozi Oketah is a Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine Consultant at Children’s Health Ireland, Crumlin and Connolly Hospitals, Dublin. She was formerly a consultant at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children, where she pioneered and chaired the Adolescent working group.Dr Oketah completed her paediatric residency training as a general paediatrician with the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland and was a clinical fellow at the University College London Hospital Department of adolescent Medicine. She obtained a Master’s in Public Health at the University of Brighton in 2020.She is a fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, United Kingdom (RCPCH) and the faculty of paediatrics of the Royal College of paediatrics Ireland (RCPI). She is on the steering committee of the Young People’s health Special Interest group (YPHSIG) UK and is a member of the international Association of Adolescent health (IAAH), the Society of Adolescent health and medicine (SAHM), where she has served on the mental health committee for 4 years and the Association for Child and adolescent mental health (ACAMH), UK. Her clinical interests include early detection of mental health problems in children and young people, including eating disorders, and holistic management of young people with complex health needs, functional disorders, chronic pain & fatigue. She also has an interests in medical education and quality improvement. She has been a mentor with the London School of paediatrics quality improvement course and completed a postgraduate certificate in clinical education at Queens University, Belfast.She is a passionate advocate for improved mental health support and equity of health care for adolescents and has co-published articles in the Journal of Adolescent health advocating for the inclusion of young people’s voices to advocate for their own health and wellbeing. She has recently been appointed the global director for International Adolescent Week (IAHW) by the International Association for Adolescent Health.
