Dr. Nelly Ninis is a General Paediatrician at St Mary’s Hospital in London, part of the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. In addition to her clinical role, she has specialist training in paediatric infectious diseases and holds a master’s degree in Tropical Medicine. Her clinical and academic work is focused on improving the early recognition and management of serious infections in children and young people.
Dr. Ninis led a national research study investigating the recognition and early management of meningococcal disease in children in the UK. This work informed subsequent efforts to improve the identification and response to sepsis in paediatric populations, including neonates, infants, and adolescents. Her contributions have supported enhanced clinical awareness and the development of educational tools for frontline healthcare professionals.
She has developed e-learning modules on the recognition and management of meningococcal disease and neonatal sepsis, which are used in clinical training across the UK. In 2017, Dr. Ninis collaborated with Health Education England to produce a teaching film on childhood sepsis, aimed at supporting early diagnosis and appropriate escalation of care in acute settings.
Dr. Ninis is actively involved in education and training within the NHS, delivering teaching to junior doctors and healthcare professionals in paediatrics and emergency care. Her work bridges clinical practice and educational development, with a sustained commitment to improving early detection of life-threatening infections in children and young people.
