Dr Rachael Mitchell is a Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine at King’s College Hospital, where she is committed to delivering high-quality, compassionate care to children and young people at the frontline of emergency services. A lifelong member of the King’s community, Dr Mitchell completed a Darzi Fellowship during her training, focusing on improving acute care pathways for children and young people—a mission she has proudly continued in her role as a consultant.
Deeply invested in advancing the national agenda for Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Dr Mitchell is an active member of the Association of Paediatric Emergency Medicine (APEM) committee, serving as the Events Officer. In this role, she has successfully led APEM sessions at major conferences including those of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) and the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM). Her leadership has contributed significantly to the development of core national resources, including the Standards for Paediatric Assessment Units, the Trainee Charter, and Delivering Really Good Paediatric Training. Most recently, she co-authored the ‘Children with Complex Needs’ chapter for the Emergency Care Standards.
A passionate educator, Dr Mitchell serves as both the Education Lead in the Paediatric Emergency Department and the Undergraduate Child Health Lead at King’s College London. She is deeply engaged in nurturing the next generation of pediatricians and emergency clinicians, integrating hands-on clinical education with innovative teaching strategies.
