Prof. Santi Mintegi is a Full Professor of Pediatrics and Section Head of the Pediatric Emergency Department at Cruces University Hospital in Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain. He has been a staff physician in the department since 1991 and has led its education and research activities since 2004. He earned his Bachelor of Medicine degree in 1986, completed his specialization in Pediatrics in 1991, and obtained his PhD with Summa Cum Laude distinction in 2010.
From 2004 to 2019, he served as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of the Basque Country and has held the position of Full Professor since 2019. He also serves as Secretary of the Department of Pediatrics at the same university.
Prof. Mintegi has a strong academic and publishing background, having edited approximately 25 pediatric textbooks and authored more than 200 scientific manuscripts, with a focus on pediatric emergency care. His research covers a wide range of clinical issues in pediatric emergencies, including febrile illness, head trauma, and diagnostic decision-making in acute care settings.
He is a founding member and current Secretary of the Spanish Pediatric Emergency Society and is actively involved in multiple national and international multicenter pediatric emergency research networks. His contributions to pediatric emergency medicine have supported the development of standardized protocols and improved care for acutely ill and injured children across Spain.
Prof. Mintegi remains deeply engaged in clinical practice, academic teaching, and collaborative research, contributing to the advancement of pediatric emergency medicine both nationally and internationally.
