Christina Mcmellon

Dr. Christina McMellon is a Research Associate at the University of Glasgow, specializing in youth mental health, public health policy, and participatory research. She is part of the Complexity Programme at the MRC/CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit, where she contributes to transdisciplinary research aimed at improving youth mental health and wellbeing.

Dr. McMellon plays a key role in the Transdisciplinary Research for the Improvement of Youth Mental Public Health (TRIUMPH) network, a UK Research and Innovation-funded initiative that brings together young people, academics, practitioners, and policymakers to develop new strategies for supporting youth mental health, particularly in underserved communities. She is responsible for youth participation and co-production within TRIUMPH, ensuring that young voices shape research and policy decisions. She also supports the Youth Advisory Group, fostering collaborative engagement between researchers and young people.

Her research interests include co-producing research with young people, qualitative studies on youth and communities, cross-cultural research, and youth activism. She explores how social environments influence adolescent mental health, refining public health interventions to address systemic inequalities. Her work integrates academic research with real-world applications, ensuring that mental health policies are informed by lived experiences.

Beyond her research, Dr. McMellon is actively involved in public engagement and advocacy, collaborating with national and international organizations to improve mental health support systems for young people. She has contributed to peer-reviewed publications on youth mental health, social change, and participatory research methodologies, shaping best practices in adolescent wellbeing research.
