Dr. Julie Leysen is a Senior Staff Member at the Department of Dermatology at University Hospital Antwerp, specializing in atopic dermatitis, pediatric dermatology, and immunological skin disorders. She has contributed extensively to dermatological research and clinical practice, focusing on drug allergy diagnostics and inflammatory skin conditions.
Dr. Leysen earned her medical degree summa cum laude from the University of Antwerp in 2009, demonstrating early academic excellence. She then spent four years in the research laboratory of Immunology at the University of Antwerp, where she worked on the development and validation of in vitro tools for optimizing drug allergy diagnosis. Her research contributed to advancements in allergy testing and immunological response assessments, refining diagnostic accuracy for patients with hypersensitivity reactions.
In 2013, she successfully defended her PhD, further solidifying her expertise in clinical immunology and dermatological research. Since then, she has been actively involved in pediatric dermatology, focusing on atopic dermatitis and inflammatory skin diseases in children. Her work integrates clinical dermatology with immunological insights, ensuring that patients receive personalized and evidence-based treatment.
Dr. Leysen has contributed to peer-reviewed publications on skin microbiome research, immune responses in dermatological conditions, and pediatric allergy management. Her studies explore the role of microbial diversity in atopic dermatitis, helping refine therapeutic approaches for children with chronic skin conditions.
Beyond her research, Dr. Leysen is actively involved in medical education and mentorship, training healthcare professionals in dermatological immunology and pediatric skin disease management.
