Anna Lavizzari

Dr. Anna Lavizzari is an attending physician in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Fondazione IRCCS Cà Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico, University of Milan. Her clinical and research interests focus on neonatal respiratory physiology, respiratory support strategies, and neonatal resuscitation.

She received her medical degree from the University of Florence in 2006 and completed her specialization in Paediatrics at the University of Milan in 2012, where she trained in neonatology under the direction of Professor Fabio Mosca. In 2013–2014 she completed a research fellowship at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute in Melbourne, investigating strategies for neonatal resuscitation in preterm lamb models and less invasive surfactant administration under the supervision of Dr. David Tingay and Professor Peter Dargaville. She continues to collaborate on experimental studies on the long-term pulmonary consequences of prematurity and prolonged mechanical ventilation with Dr. Jane Pillow (University of Western Australia) and Dr. Kurt Albertine (University of Utah).Since 2014, she has been working as an attending physician in the NICU at Fondazione IRCCS Cà Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico.

Her research focuses on lung recruitment at birth, non-invasive respiratorysupport, respiratory mechanics assessment using the Forced Oscillation Technique, individualized surfactant therapy, and long-term lung function in former preterm infants. Dr. Lavizzari is Chair of the Pulmonology Board of the Italian Society of Neonatology (SIN), a member of the Pulmonology section of the European Society for Paediatric Research (ESPR), and former Chair of the NICU and PICU Group of the European Respiratory Society (ERS).
