Professor Taco W. Kuijpers, MD, PhD, is a leading expert in pediatric immunology, rheumatology, and infectious diseases, serving as a Full Professor at Amsterdam University Medical Center (Amsterdam UMC), Netherlands. He specializes in innate and adaptive immune defects, focusing on immunodeficiencies, autoinflammation, and immune dysregulation.
Prof. Kuijpers earned his medical degree from the University of Amsterdam, where he initiated his own research project on immunology, earning his doctorate with distinction in 1992. He pursued postdoctoral training in Seattle, Washington, USA, before completing his specialization in pediatrics and clinical immunology. His research integrates clinical immunology with translational science, refining diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for immune disorders.
Since 2018, Prof. Kuijpers has served as Principal Investigator of a national research consortium dedicated to B cell pathology, leading studies on immune system dysfunction and antibody biology. He co-supervises a COVID-vaccination study, assessing immune responses and vaccine efficacy in immunocompromised patients. His work explores the biology of antibodies, complement systems, and cellular receptors, ensuring that patients with immune disorders receive targeted treatments.
Beyond his research, Prof. Kuijpers is actively involved in medical education and mentorship, training healthcare professionals in pediatric immunology and infectious disease management.
