Dr. Michal Kalman is a researcher at Palacky University in Olomouc, specializing in public health, physical activity promotion, and policy analysis. He serves as the principal investigator of the HBSC Czech national team, leading research on health behaviors in school-aged children. His work focuses on population-based approaches to encourage physical activity and the development of national strategies for active living.
Dr. Kalman earned his PhD in 2013 from Palacky University, where he conducted research on policy analysis and physical activity trends. His studies explore secular trends in adolescent physical activity, screen time behaviors, and active commuting to school, providing insights into youth health behaviors and their long-term implications. He has contributed to international research collaborations, examining health literacy, obesity trends, and injury prevention among adolescents.
His research has been funded by the European Commission, Visegrad Fund, Czech Ministry of Education, and Czech Ministry of Health, supporting initiatives that aim to improve public health policies and interventions. He has co-authored studies on adolescent sleep patterns, bullying trends, and the impact of school environments on physical activity, shaping evidence-based strategies for health promotion in educational settings.
Beyond his research, Dr. Kalman is actively involved in academic mentorship and policy development, working with government agencies and international health organizations to refine national strategies for active living. His contributions to public health research, adolescent health behavior studies, and policy analysis continue to shape health promotion efforts in the Czech Republic and beyond.
