Dr. Charlotte Haaxma is a Pediatric Neurologist at Amalia Children’s Hospital, Radboudumc Nijmegen, specializing in movement disorders, epilepsy, and autoimmune encephalitis in children. She has extensive experience in neurology and pediatric neurology, having trained at Radboudumc Nijmegen and UMC Utrecht in the Netherlands. She earned her PhD in Parkinson’s disease, which has shaped her expertise in neurological disorders affecting both children and adults.
Dr. Haaxma joined the Neurology Department at Radboudumc Nijmegen in 2012, where she has been actively involved in clinical care, research, and medical education. Radboudumc Nijmegen serves as a dedicated referral center for movement disorders and neuromuscular diseases, providing specialized treatment for children with complex neurological conditions.
Her research focuses on early diagnosis and intervention strategies for movement disorders, aiming to improve long-term outcomes for pediatric patients. She has contributed to studies on epilepsy management, neuroinflammatory diseases, and neurodevelopmental disorders, refining treatment protocols for children with neurological impairments. Her expertise in autoimmune encephalitis has helped advance therapeutic approaches for neuroimmune conditions, ensuring that affected children receive timely and effective care.
Beyond her clinical and research work, Dr. Haaxma is actively involved in medical education and mentorship, training healthcare professionals in pediatric neurology and movement disorder management.
