Professor Morris Gordon is the Director of the Biomedical Evidence Synthesis and Translations to Practice (BEST) unit at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). He specializes in evidence-based medicine, systematic reviews, and medical education, contributing to advancements in healthcare research and clinical practice.
Prof. Gordon is the coordinating editor and lead for the UCLan Cochrane Gut editorial satellite group, where he oversees systematic reviews on gastroenterology, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and chronic constipation. His work has influenced national guidelines, ensuring that healthcare professionals have access to the latest evidence-based recommendations. He has contributed to over 30 Cochrane reviews, collaborating with international research groups, including Cochrane Airways and Cochrane Infectious Diseases.
As an NIHR Cochrane Programme Grant holder, Prof. Gordon leads a three-year initiative aimed at producing a portfolio of systematic reviews in IBD research, supporting clinical decision-making and improving patient outcomes. His expertise extends to medical education, where he serves as Chair of the Best Evidence Medical Education (BEME) Collaboration executive, guiding research on best practices in health education.
Beyond his research, Prof. Gordon is a consultant pediatrician, working in the North West of the UK. His clinical responsibilities include acute pediatric care, neonatal medicine, and child protection services. He has played a key role in developing neurodisability pathways, ensuring compliance with national guidelines for complex pediatric conditions.
Prof. Gordon has published over 90 peer-reviewed papers, contributing to medical education, gastroenterology, and pediatric healthcare. He has delivered training workshops on evidence synthesis, mentoring researchers and healthcare professionals in systematic review methodologies.
