Dr. Carolina Fischinger is a Medical Geneticist at the Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre, Brazil. She specializes in the treatment of neurogenetic disorders and inborn errors of metabolism, including lysosomal storage diseases and other related conditions. Her expertise in medical genetics has been instrumental in advancing patient care and research in the field.
Dr. Fischinger completed her PhD in Genetics and Molecular Biology in 2005, focusing on inborn errors of metabolism. She has held leadership positions within professional organizations, having served as President of the Medical Genetic Society and currently acting as Vice President of the Brazilian Society for Neonatal Screening and Inborn Errors of Metabolism (SBTEIM). She is also a member of several international and national medical genetics societies, including the Society for the Study of Inborn Errors of Metabolism (SSIEM), the Brazilian Medical Genetic Society (SBGM), and the Latin American Society of Inborn Errors of Metabolism and Neonatal Screening (SLEIMP).
Her contributions extend beyond clinical practice, as she actively participates in research and initiatives aimed at improving the understanding and treatment of metabolic disorders. Through her involvement in medical societies and ongoing work in genetics, Dr. Fischinger continues to support advancements in neonatal screening and the management of genetic conditions.
