Professor Michael Edelstein is a public health physician specializing in infectious disease and vaccine epidemiology. He is a full professor at the Azrieli Faculty of Medicine, Bar-Ilan University, where his research focuses on equitable delivery of public health programs and the use of digital tools and data to improve health outcomes. He also holds an honorary appointment at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, contributing to research on health inequalities in immunization.Before moving to Israel in 2020, Professor Edelstein worked at Public Health England, where he led efforts to improve vaccine coverage data and optimize immunization programs across the life course. His work integrates operational research and policy development, with a focus on reducing disparities in vaccine uptake and strengthening public health systems.He has served on expert advisory groups for the World Health Organization, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, and the Israeli Ministry of Health. From 2018 to 2021, he was president of the Infectious Diseases Section of the European Public Health Association. He is also Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Epidemiology and Infection and a Fellow of the UK Faculty of Public Health.Professor Edelstein has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and leads research projects on topics including hybrid immunity, vaccine hesitancy, and the application of artificial intelligence in infectious disease modeling. His current work addresses the intersection of public health, digital innovation, and health equity, with a particular emphasis on immunization strategies in underserved populations.
