Professor Cathy Creswell is a leading expert in developmental clinical psychology, serving as Professor of Developmental Clinical Psychology at the University of Oxford and an Honorary Consultant Psychologist. She leads The Oxford Psychological Interventions for Children and Adolescents (TOPIC) research group, where she focuses on the development, maintenance, and treatment of anxiety disorders in children and young people.
Prof. Creswell has dedicated her career to advancing psychological therapies for childhood anxiety, ensuring that families and clinicians have access to evidence-based interventions. She has published several books for parents and clinicians, including Helping Your Child with Fears and Worries, providing practical guidance for managing childhood anxiety.
Her contributions to clinical psychology have earned her prestigious awards, including the British Psychological Society May Davidson Award for outstanding contributions to Clinical Psychology within 10 years of qualifying. She was also the first clinical psychologist to be awarded an NIHR Research Professorship, recognizing her impact on mental health research and policy.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Prof. Creswell led responsive studies to track children and young people’s mental health, ensuring that families received timely support. Her research integrates experimental, longitudinal, and clinical trial methods, refining psychological treatments for anxiety disorders.
Beyond her research, she is actively involved in policy development and academic mentorship, collaborating with national and international health organizations to improve mental health interventions for children and adolescents.
