Dr. Akshay Batra is a Consultant in Paediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at University Hospital Southampton, specializing in intestinal failure and complex nutritional needs in children. He leads the Paediatric Intestinal Failure service, ensuring that children with severe gastrointestinal conditions receive specialized, evidence-based care.
Dr. Batra has played a key role in national pediatric gastroenterology initiatives, serving as Chair of the National Paediatric Registry for Intestinal Failure. His expertise extends to clinical training and education, where he acts as the CSAC Training Advisor for Nutrition at the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. His work focuses on developing standardized protocols for managing intestinal failure, improving long-term outcomes for pediatric patients.
His research interests lie in epidemiology and management of intestinal failure, exploring nutritional interventions, gut microbiome studies, and innovative treatment approaches. He has led multiple clinical trials investigating parenteral nutrition strategies, gut rehabilitation techniques, and surgical interventions for children with severe gastrointestinal disorders.
