Dr. Julien Baruteau is a MRC Clinician Scientist Fellow and Group Leader at University College London Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, as well as a Consultant in Metabolic Medicine at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London. His research focuses on studying the pathophysiology and developing novel therapies for inherited metabolic diseases, particularly through gene therapy innovations.
Dr. Baruteau has pioneered gene therapy using both viral and non-viral vectors, refining targeted treatments for metabolic disorders. He serves as the UK chief investigator in first-in-human gene therapy clinical trials, ensuring that cutting-edge genetic interventions translate into clinical applications. His expertise extends to bridging academic research with industry-led gene therapy programs, facilitating collaborations between scientific institutions and biotechnology companies.
Beyond his research, Dr. Baruteau is an active member of expert committees within the European Society of Gene and Cell Therapy, the American Society of Gene and Cell Therapy, and the European Society of Human Genetics, contributing to global discussions on gene therapy advancements. His work integrates clinical practice with translational research, ensuring that patients with inherited metabolic diseases receive innovative and effective treatments.
