Dr. Namanjeet Ahluwalia is a nutrition epidemiologist specializing in micronutrient research, cardiometabolic risk, and inflammation. She has held leadership roles in nutrition monitoring and public health, contributing to advancements in dietary assessment and epidemiological research.
Dr. Ahluwalia served as Chair of Nutrition Epidemiology RIS at the American Society of Nutrition (2014-2016) and is currently the Nutrition Monitoring Advisor for the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) at the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), CDC. In this role, she provides expert guidance on nutrition-related data collection and analysis, ensuring that public health policies are informed by robust epidemiological evidence.
Before joining the CDC in 2012, Dr. Ahluwalia was a Distinguished Chair in Nutrition Epidemiology at the University of Paris, France, where she led research on iron nutrition, inflammation, and cardiometabolic health. Her work has explored the role of micronutrients in disease prevention, particularly in infancy, childhood, and aging. She has contributed to studies examining iron deficiency, metabolic syndrome, and the impact of dietary patterns on long-term health outcomes.
Dr. Ahluwalia has also played a key role in translational research, bridging the gap between nutritional science and clinical practice. Her expertise in nutrition surveillance and epidemiological modeling has helped refine dietary guidelines and public health interventions aimed at reducing nutritional disparities.
Beyond her research, Dr. Ahluwalia is actively involved in scientific publishing and mentorship, serving as an Associate Editor for ASN’s Advances in Nutrition journal. She continues to contribute to global nutrition policy discussions, advocating for evidence-based approaches to dietary assessment and health promotion.
