Elizabeth Adams

Elizabeth Adams is the President of the European Federation of Nurses Associations (EFN), representing over 3 million nurses across Europe. She has held various roles in nursing organizations, policy development, and education, contributing to workforce sustainability and healthcare system reform.

Adams has an extensive background in nursing leadership, having served as Director of Professional Development with the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation, where she developed and delivered over 100 national specialist education programs. She has also worked as a consultant on Nursing and Health Policy with the International Council of Nurses (ICN) in Geneva, focusing on socio-economic welfare, occupational health and safety, leadership, and international migration.

Her academic affiliations include being an Adjunct Associate Professor at Curtin University of Technology, Western Australia, an Honorary Fellow at the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, Royal College of Surgeons Ireland, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN). She has contributed to nursing education through research, program development, and participation in global healthcare initiatives.

Adams has been involved in advisory work with the World Health Organization (WHO), including technical contributions to the European Strategic Directions for Nursing and Midwifery. She has also played a role in the International Positive Practice Environments Campaign, advocating for improved working conditions for nurses worldwide.

Her work has included international collaborations, nursing workforce policy, occupational health and safety, leadership development, and advocacy for improved working conditions. She has contributed to nursing education through research, program development, and participation in global healthcare initiatives.

Throughout her career, Adams has worked for both the Department of Health in Ireland and Western Australia, where she helped manage significant health reforms. In Western Australia, she was instrumental in drafting and implementing legislation that established the nurse and midwife practitioner role.
