Upcoming Webinar
Distinguishing CLN2 Batten Disease – Navigating the Differential Diagnosis and Referral Pathways

Following the strong response to our first CLN2 session, the Think Rare Program continues with a live webinar on the differential diagnosis of CLN2 (Batten disease) featuring two leading pediatric neurologists.

Context

Children with CLN2 are often diagnosed years after their first symptoms appear. Early signs like language delay, seizures, and clumsiness can look like epilepsy, autism, or general developmental delay, so CLN2 often goes unrecognized until much later, when more symptoms appear and the picture becomes harder to ignore.

That delay matters. CLN2 progresses quickly, and the earlier it’s recognized, the more options remain open for families and clinicians alike.

This webinar in the Think Rare series, taking place on 15 July and presented by Dr. Marina Trivisano and Dr. Pasquale Striano, helps clinicians recognize when a familiar diagnosis no longer fits the full picture, and when it’s time to test for CLN2 rather than continue down a more common pathway.

Distinguishing CLN2: Navigating the Differential Diagnosis and Referral Pathways

A 60-minute expert-led webinar on distinguishing CLN2 disease from more common pediatric neurological, developmental, and behavioral presentations. The session covers reassessment frameworks, differential diagnosis, escalation, and referral pathways, offering practical guidance for pediatric neurologists, general pediatricians, and primary care clinicians on recognizing red-flag symptom combinations and moving toward timely testing and specialist referral.

Key Learning Points from the Webinar

At the end of the webinar, participants will be able to:

1

Diagnostic Pathways That Delay Recognition

Understand how common diagnostic pathways can delay recognition of CLN2 disease.

2

Red Flags and Progression Patterns

Identify red-flag symptom combinations that justify escalation beyond common diagnoses.

3

When to Refer and When to Test

Initiate prompt referral and genetic testing in suspected CLN2, aligned with clinical suspicion.

Multidisciplinary Management and Treatment in CLN2 (Batten Disease)

Multidisciplinary Management and Treatment in CLN2 (Batten Disease)

Wednesday, 9th September 2026 · 13:00 CEST

This webinar will address the practical management of CLN2 disease, a rare and rapidly progressive neurodegenerative condition where early diagnosis directly influences treatment opportunities and long-term care planning. Led by Dr. Dipak Ram, the session will focus on current treatment approaches, including enzyme replacement therapy, alongside supportive and symptomatic care across the disease trajectory.
