Torbjorn Torsheim

Professor Torbjørn Torsheim, PhD, is a leading expert in psychometrics and adolescent health, serving as Professor in the Department of Psychosocial Science at the University of Bergen, Norway. His research focuses on emotional well-being during early adolescence, refining quantification and measurement techniques for mental health and social inequalities.

Prof. Torsheim earned his PhD from the University of Bergen, where his dissertation explored the relationship between psychosocial school environments and health complaints in adolescents. His work integrates psychometric methodologies with public health research, ensuring that mental health assessments are scientifically robust and applicable to real-world settings.

Since 1998, he has been an active member of the Norwegian Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) team, contributing to longitudinal studies on adolescent health trends. In 2019, he took on the role of Assistant Data Bank Manager for the HBSC study, overseeing data collection and analysis across multiple countries.

Prof. Torsheim has authored over 120 peer-reviewed journal articles, shaping global discussions on adolescent mental health, health inequalities, and social determinants of well-being. His research explores how sex and socioeconomic status influence adolescent health outcomes, refining intervention strategies for vulnerable youth populations.

Beyond his research, he is actively involved in academic mentorship and policy development, collaborating with international health organizations to improve mental health assessments and adolescent well-being strategies.
